Intermediate/Advanced Tumbling
Class Overview
Intermediate / Advanced World focuses on connection tumbling, power development, and consistency under pressure.
Athletes must demonstrate strong rebound mechanics, shoulder strength, and independent back handsprings before entering this class.
The goal is power + precision + controlled connections.
“Clean connections build advanced tumbling.”
Program
Advanced Tumbling
Level
Upper Intermediate / Advanced
Entry Requirements (VERY IMPORTANT)
Athlete must consistently demonstrate:
• Strong round-off rebound
• Independent back handspring
• 2 connected BHS on tumble track
• Wall handstand (60 sec)
• Hollow hold (40 sec)
• Controlled snap-down
If BHS is inconsistent → remain in Back Handspring Class.
No exceptions.
Developmental Objectives
Athlete should develop:
• Round-off BHS connection control
• BHS series timing
• Power hurdle mechanics
• Snap speed under fatigue
• Clean landings under pressure
• Intro to advanced passes (when ready)
Connections before difficulty.
Coaching Cues
“Punch and rebound.”
“Stay tight through connection.”
“Snap fast, finish tall.”
“Power through your set.”
“Don’t rush the landing.”
Short. Technical. Demanding.
Common Errors & Fixes
Issue: Losing power after round-off
→ Fix: Rebound timing drills.
Issue: Breaking shape in connection
→ Fix: Slow connection drill work.
Issue: Bent arms under fatigue
→ Fix: Add conditioning + reduce reps.
Issue: Landing low
→ Fix: Snap speed emphasis.
Issue: Rushing passes
→ Reset. Break into drill segments.
Two poor reps → regression drill.
Safety & Structure Notes
• 2–3 athletes per tumbling lane.
• Coach spotting first new connections.
• No advanced passes without clean BHS series.
• No fatigue attempts on new skills.
• If connection breaks twice → regress.
Power without control is dangerous.
