Advanced Gymnastics (7 & Up)
Class Overview
Advanced Gymnastics focuses on refining higher-level skills, developing controlled connections, and building strength endurance required for advanced progressions.
Athletes are expected to demonstrate consistency, coachability, and self-correction.
The goal is clean execution + connection control + strength mastery.
“Strong fundamentals create advanced skills.”
Program
Recreational Gymnastics – Advanced
Level
Advanced (7+)
Entry Expectations (VERY IMPORTANT)
Athlete must consistently demonstrate:
• Round-off with control
• Backward roll to push-up
• Bridge kickover
• Handstand hold (45 sec wall)
• Pullover independently
• Cast shape hold
• Controlled beam jump + stick
• Bar hang (30 sec)
If inconsistent → remain in Intermediate.
No rushing upgrades.
Developmental Objectives
Athlete should develop:
• Round-off rebound control
• Back handspring drill progressions
• Handstand snap-down to rebound
• Beam series connections
• Strong cast to horizontal shape
• Glide swing control
Clean shapes before connections.
Coaching Cues
“Push tall through shoulders.”
“Snap down fast.”
“Rebound, don’t collapse.”
“Control the connection.”
“Finish every landing.”
Cues must be technical and precise.
Common Errors & Fixes
Issue: Collapsing after round-off
→ Fix: Snap-down + rebound drill work.
Issue: Bent arms in cast
→ Fix: Add shoulder strength + wall handstand holds.
Issue: Rushing BHS progressions
→ Fix: Increase drill exposure before full attempts.
Issue: Weak beam landings
→ Fix: Stick rule (must hold 3 seconds).
Issue: Fear of backward skills
→ Break into drill segments. Build confidence progressively.
Safety & Structure Notes
• 2–3 athletes per station ideal.
• Coach at highest-risk skill station.
• Rotate every 12–15 minutes.
• No connection attempts without independent control.
• Two failed attempts → regression drill.
Progressions prevent injury.
